What’s the difference?
A secured loan will have the vehicle attached to the loan. In essence, should a borrower be unable to make their repayments, it allows the lender to take ownership of the vehicle, and sell it to obtain the remaining balance of the loan.
An unsecured loan simply doesn’t have an asset attached to the loan as security. As a result, the lender is taking on more risk and will charge a higher interest rate than a loan that is secured.
Most newer cars (less than 12 years of age at the end of loan term) will qualify for a secured car loan.
For older cars, like your old jdm and import cars, an unsecured car loan may be a better option as these cars are too old for a lender to take as security.

The advantage of getting finance outside of the dealership is that it gives you more flexibility in negotiating the car price, therefore putting less pressure on you to choose the car you want. Gives you the option to shop around at other dealerships and negotiate cash price.
We’ll help you compare repayments if you’ve been quoted by the dealership and advise you if its a good deal or not.
When buying through a private seller, there are some additional steps required to get the finance approval, such as verifying the seller’s details and rego papers. And finding out if the existing car is under finance or not.
